Patricia (Patty) Gallegos is a native New Mexican who retired from the Albuquerque Police Department and the United States Army Reserves in the late 1990ís. She started taking drawing in Pastel lessons, and then moved into oils. She grew up showing dogs and horses, and they have frequently been the subjects of her pieces. She also paints and draws old NM buildings, athletes, and a variety of other topics. Patty is married to David, and they currently reside in Veguita, New Mexico.

Artist Statement

I have been creative and attracted to art as long as I can remember. Upon my retirement, I began to take art lessons, and have continued to add to my art education ever since. Now my art work and creativity is more of a compulsion than a choice.
I am endeavoring to paint in series. I spent several years on small rural churches and dog portraits. I spent another year on horses. Currently I am focused on athleticism and movement, both human and equine. In the future I may go back to the old rural churches to address them in the style in which I now paint, versus how I painted as a beginner.
I still do animal portraits. Many people who love their pets want to have a nice memory of them. I enjoy providing that joyful experience.
As is typical for many creative people, I have more projects I want to do than I probably have in remaining lifetime!
